Hamilton Trust have made Learning at Home packs available and lessons for Week 1 can be found below.

We have also collated a few other resources - It may seem like a lot, but there are a range of activities here which children should work through progressively alongside the Hamilton work.
Our expectations are that Year 4 children should be:
Extra English topics have been divided in to different subheadings. If you click the underlined headings below, it will take you to the document/site that you require. These are:
The aim of each section is to keep as close to our original topics as possible. A furhter description of each section follows below:
Craft Activities
This will require children to read and follow step by step instructions. The crafts themselves are just a fun way of doing this. A possible extension could be to let the children write their own step by step instruction of a task of their choice i.e. how to successfully trot on a horse.
Games and Short Activities
These might be a fun way to end a longer activity as these are designed purely to either relax the children in an educational sense, or to revise their skills through games based activities. There are also some ‘reading challenge cards’ which are the style of questions which you could use when reading with them.
Research Topics
For this, children will need access to the internet. I have chosen the research topic to be about Mount Everest, however you could do something similar with topics that interest the children more, such as dinosaurs, animals, Titanic, the rainforest etc. The style of these reports could be done as a fact file or as a larger piece of text. A possible extension from this is to ask children to write a persuasive argument on a topic, such as ‘should we wear school uniforms’ or ‘should boys and girls compete in mixed sports’. For this, a for, against and an opinion paragraph will be needed.
Longer Writing Pieces
For this, you will find two links, one of the links will direct you to a website with some different images. Children are to use these images as starters for their own stories. You can choose to use a range of the images or to use your own images. The second link will direct you to a video. Children should watch this video and then choose one of the writing opportunities.
All of these tasks can be enhanced by following our book recommendations on the school website. There are activities outside of these that you may want to get the children to do, these include:
The spelling activities are through the website spellingcity.com, where you can click on the matching week to play an array of games and activities using the National Curriculum spelling words for that week.
Our expectations are that Year 4 children should be:
- Writing in sentences, with capital letters and full stops
- Using a range of vocabulary to describe emotions
- Use show not tell sentences - how can you show me a character is sad for example
- Using commas for extra information
