Week 2 Science
For science this week, children are continuing to explore seeds through stories and fun activities.
Begin by listening to this reading of The Great Paper Caper by Oliver Jeffers: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sTiTVEVtYAI&feature=youtu.be Next, you can have a go at making your own seed bomb inspired by the book: https://buggyandbuddy.com/make-seed-balls-from-recycled-paper/?jwsource=em There's also another video tutorial here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N3tbZguBzG8&feature=youtu.be Enjoy your science fun this week! Week 1 Science
For science this week, children are invited to grow seeds and observe how they grow into mature plants.
If children are not able to plant their own seeds, there is a helicopter seed activity using only paper in the session resources attached below. There is also a clay seed activity to complete, using pipe cleaners, clay (children could make their own salt dough for the clay), and cotton buds.
Begin by examining the pictures of seeds on the session resources and talking through the questions on the page. Then have a go at some of the activities around learning about seeds. Further fun resources are below.
This engaging video explains the concepts around seed growing for children: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tkFPyue5X3Q
Children can listen to the story The Tiny Seed here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ls6wTeT2cKA
Further information about seed dispersal can be found at this weblink for children: http://www.kidsdiscover.com/parentresources/seed-dispersal/
Happy germinating!
