Our Literacy learning goal of this week is: To talk about events in a story and to label the parts of a signet or a duck.
Activity 1: Together, read ‘’The Odd Egg’ by Emily Gravett (access here: https://youtu.be/8LKoji2i7Cw) Before you get to the end of the story, pause the video and ask your child if they can predict what baby animal will hatch from the odd egg? After you read the story, try to identify each animal and their young. Ask your child, do you think Duck’s egg is odd? Why? Activity 2: Together, read ‘Spring for the Birds’ by Ruth Mertens (https://hamiltontrust-live-b211b12a2ca14cbb94d6-36f68d2.divio-media.net/documents/spring_for_the_birds.pdf). Discuss with your child how the parent birds prepare for and look after their eggs and young. What is similar/different to how they care for them? Activity 3:
Stretch your knowledge: Tell your child that some animals lay eggs but others give birth to live young. Watch the following clip together and encourage your child to ask questions about the different places in which animals lay their eggs : https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/clips/zdw9wmn Writing goal for the week:
